Danny Green adjusting to new role

Danny Green found himself in an unusual situation last night, in a starting role for the San Antonio Spurs.
The North Babylon native and former St. Mary’s high school star has played in the New York metro-area several times during his three-year NBA career, but never as a starter.
Green started against the Nets and helped the Spurs cruise to a 103-89 victory at the Prudential Center in Newark.
Green finished with 10 points in 20 minutes of action.
It was the second career start for the 6-6 guard, who was also in the starting lineup in the Spurs 110-90 win over the 76ers on Wednesday.
“It’s been a great experience and it’s a great opportunity,” Green said of starting. “I’ve played in New Jersey and New York before, but usually I’m on the sidelines or in a suit.”
Green said he’s always had strong family support when he came to the New York area. It was no different last night for Green, who said there would be 20 to 30 family members in attendance.
“They’ll actually get to see me play,” said Green.
Green has found a nice niche for himself on the Spurs roster. He’s averaging career highs in minutes (22:06) and points (7.3) prior to last night’s game for the Spurs (19-9), who are in first place in the Southwest conference.
Getting playing time for a winning franchise and doing alongside the likes of Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili has made things even more special for Green.
“We’re winning games…I can’t ask for more,” said Green. “Playing with three great players has really helped and I hope I can keep it going.”
