Rondo, Deron with historic performances

Deron Williams scored the most points by a Net since Julius Erving -- and the most since the team moved to New Jersey and in to the NBA -- and Rajon Rondo did something only Oscar Robertson and Wilt Chamberlain have accomplished in yesterday's games.

Williams poured 57 points in on the Charlotte Bobcats, New Jersey needing every one of them in a 104-101 win. He took just 29 shots, connecting on 16 of them, and went a perfect 21-for-21 from the line.

The 21 free throws without a miss was the second most in NBA history in a single game, behind only Dominique Wilkins. Wilkins went 23-for-23 from the stripe in a 1992 game.

The Nets all-time franchise record for points in a game, including the team's ABA years, was 63 by Julius Erving on Valentine's Day in 1975. Erving's 63 came in a quadruple-overtime game against the San Diego Conqusitadors. The 63 was also an NBA record.

Williams' 57 was the most in the NBA this season, and the most in the league since Kobe Bryant scored 61 at Madison Square Garden on Feb. 2, 2009.

The Nets' point guard is now averaging 22.6 points per game.

In Boston's 115-111 overtime win against the Knicks, Rondo filled up the stat sheet like only two other NBA greats have done.

Rondo finished with a triple-double -- his fourth of the season -- with 18 points, 17 rebounds and 20 assists. The stat line was only the third in NBA history to include at least 15 points, 15 rebounds and 20 assists: Oscar Robertson accomplished the feat in 1961, and Wilt Chamberlain had the NBA's only double triple-double (22 points, 25 rebounds and 21 assists) in 1968.

The last player with at least 17 points, 17 rebounds and 17 assists was Magic Johnson in 1989.

In his career, including the playoffs, Rondo now has 17 triple-doubles. He is now averaging 14.3 points, 10.2 assists and 5.4 rebounds per game this season.
