Report: No deal for Mavericks, Jason Kidd

After striking out on Deron Williams and Steve Nash, the Mavericks may finally be nearing a deal with a starting point guard.
According to ESPN's Jeff Caplan, the Mavs and veteran point guard Jason Kidd are nearing agreement on a deal worth $9 million over three years.
One of the great point guards in NBA history, Kidd, a 10-time All-Star, is second all-time in the NBA in both assists and steals.
Kidd, 39, has spent the last five years with Dallas. After winning his first NBA championship during the 2010-11 season, he struggled through his worst year as a pro in 2011-12, averaging career lows in points (6.2), assists (5.5), rebounds (4.1) and minutes (28.7).
The Mavericks, Knicks and Nets were the three frontrunners to land Kidd at the start of the offseason. After Brooklyn signed Williams and the Lakers finalized a reported sign-and-trade deal that will net them Steve Nash, Dallas emerged as the likely destination for Kidd.
The Knicks, meanwhile, are expected to match offers for restricted free agent Jeremy Lin. According to reports, the Rockets offered Lin a backloaded deal to Lin on Wednesday; Lin has yet to accept or decline.
