JaVale, Nene, Nick Young on the move in three-team deal
The biggest splash of the 2012 trade deadline came at its final hour.
Several reports on Twitter have a three-team deal, involving the Nuggets, Wizards and Clippers, sending Nick Young, JaVale McGee and Nene to new teams.
Washington Post NBA writer Michael Lee reports that the deal breaks down as follows:
Nuggets acquire McGee and Ronny Turiaf
Clippers acquire Young
Wizards acquire Nene, Brian Cook and a second round draft pick from the Clippers
Despite a young, talented core, Washington has struggled to a 9-32 record this year. McGee, while supremely talented, has been criticized for his basketball IQ.
Similarly, Young is gifted as a scorer, but his minutes have dipped lately, and he appeared to not be the right fit with John Wall in Washington's backcourt.
For the Clippers, though, Young could be the ideal fit. With Chris Paul running the point, Young doesn't need to handle the ball, instead free to run around screens and get open looks, where he thrives.
Denver, meanwhile, may have made the deal with McGee's upside in mind. Nene has struggled to stay healthy and has four years left on his contract after this season, so the former Wizard could offer some stability at the center position.
Young needs to approve the deal, and reportedly will.
