Jimmer Fredette, whose name earned celebrity status this winter as both a proper noun and a verb, looked tired as he finally took the podium two hours after being selected with the 10th pick in the NBA Draft on Thursday.

Fredette — the sharp-shooting guard who "Jimmered" opponents to the tune of 28.9 points per game as a senior at Brigham Young this season — had to wait until a trade between Milwaukee (the team that picked him) and Sacramento went through. By 11 p.m., he was officially a King.

“It’s a great moment for me and my family,” the 6-2, 195-pound Fredette said. “Hopefully their fan base is excited because I’m really excited to get out there and start the season.”

On a night filled with future stars, Fredette undoubtedly shined brightest. Fans here at Prudential Center cheered every time his face was on television, which was often. A crowd of people celebrated at his home in Glens Falls, N.Y.

Fredette, the 2011 Naismith Award winner as the national player of the year, is accustomed to the attention by now. He even shrugged off a question at his press conference asking if he has considered running for President.

“The popularity is not quite there yet,” Fredette said, shaking his head.

Fredette led the nation in scoring and set numerous career scoring records at BYU, leading the Cougars to a 32-5 record and a spot in the Sweet Sixteen in the 2011 NCAA Tournament.

Now the question will be how Fredette adjusts to the NBA. The Kings were willing to take a chance.

“I like to score the basketball,” Fredette said. “It plays right into my style. That’s how I’ve played my whole entire life.”
