The new Westchester Knicks have a new coach. Kevin Whitted has been named the first coach of the Knicks' D-League affiliate.

Whitted has eight years of professional coaching experience, including three in the D-League. He also served as an assistant coach for the Memphis Grizzlies' summer league team and recently was the interim head men's basketball coach at Southwest Tennessee Community College.

Whitted was a teammate of Westchester Knicks general manager Allan Houston at Tennessee and attended the same high school as Michael Jordan -- Laney High in Wilmington, North Carolina. Whitted became the high school's all-time leading scorer in 1990, surpassing the record previously held by Jordan.

"Kevin has a proven track record of developing players and is committed to the processes and development of this team," Houston said. "Our relationship goes back to when we both attended the University of Tennessee. I'm confident in his ability to lead and provide an environment for players to grow on and off the court. This is an exciting time for this organization and community."

Added Whitted: "This is an incredible opportunity and I am very excited to be in Westchester. I look forward to working closely with Allan and the entire Knicks organization in building a development system that is both fruitful and competitive."
