Tyson Chandler makes All-Defensive Second Team

Tyson Chandler was the NBA’s Defensive Player of the Year, but didn’t make the All-Defensive First Team.

The Knicks center was voted to the NBA’s All-Defensive Second Team by the league’s 30 head coaches. The Defensive Player of the Year voting is done by the media.

The All-Defensive First Team consisted of forwards LeBron James and Serge Ibaka, Orlando center Dwight Howard and guards Chris Paul and Tony Allen.

The second team is forwards Kevin Garnett and Luol Deng, Chandler in the middle and Kobe Bryant and Rajon Rondo at guards.

James received 24 first-team votes and Ibaka 20. Howard received 16 and Chandler 13. Two points were awarded for a First Team vote and one point was awarded for a Second Team vote.

Chandler actually totaled enough points (36) to make the first team. (Paul had 35 and Allen 33). But the teams go by position and Chandler finished five points behind Howard.

Knicks rookie guard Iman Shumpert received four first-team votes and 13 total points, four behind Bryant.
