Celtics, Heat win, stay tied for second
Rajon Rondo had 20 points and 14 assists to lead the Boston Celtics to a 104-88 victory over the Washington Wizards on Friday night. Paul Pierce had 22 points and 12 rebounds and Kevin Garnett 15 points and 11 rebounds for Boston, which remains tied with Miami for the Eastern Conference's second spot. The Heat, which hosts the Celtics on Sunday, beat Charlotte, 112-103. Chris Bosh scored 13 of his 27 points in the fourth quarter and grabbed 10 rebounds, Dwyane Wade returned from injury to score 27 more, and LeBron James had 23 points, nine assists and seven rebounds.
Sale of Pistons to billionaire nears completion
The Detroit Pistons announced Friday that billionaire California investor Tom Gores has agreed to buy the struggling NBA franchise, ending a drawn-out sale by longtime owner Karen Davidson that stretched back before the season. The tentative deal, which also includes The Palace of Auburn Hills and DTE Energy Music Theatre, must be approved by the NBA. Terms were not disclosed, but the deal is expected to close by June 30. Gores is the chairman and CEO of Beverly Hills, Calif.-based Platinum Equity.
Avalanche captain Foote will retire
Colorado Avalanche captain Adam Foote announced his retirement Friday, but the 39-year-old defenseman isn't quite ready to put the finishing touches on a 19-season NHL career. Foote, who will sit out his 12th consecutive game Friday night against Dallas because of an ankle injury, plans to put on his No. 52 sweater one last time Sunday when the Avalanche close out the regular season against Edmonton. Foote won Stanley Cups with the Avalanche in 1996 and 2001.

Wozniacki rallies to beat Wickmayer
Top-ranked Caroline Wozniacki rallied from 4-2 down in the third set to defeat Yanina Wickmayer, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, and reach the Family Circle Cup semifinals. Wozniacki dropped the first set and was two games away from defeat when she found her groove to win the final four games. -- AP
