Jazz stuns Heat in OT

Dwyane Wade had 39 points. LeBron James had a triple-double. The Miami Heat had a 22-point lead in the second quarter. The Utah Jazz was unimpressed on all counts.

Paul Millsap scored a career-high 46 points - 11 coming in the final 28 seconds of regulation as Utah rallied from eight down - and the Jazz stunned the Heat, 116-114, in overtime last night.

"I guess when it rains, it pours," Millsap said.

Utah never led by more than three points, which didn't matter. The Jazz had more than enough at the end, and Francisco Elson's free throws with 0.4 seconds left won it.

"At some point in the year, unfortunately, we have to go through something like this," Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said.

It's still early, but Utah can make an argument for being the NBA's comeback kings so far. The Jazz rallied from 18 points down to beat the Los Angeles Clippers on Saturday night, and dug themselves an even bigger hole this time around, trailing by 22 in the second quarter and 51-32 at halftime.

Captains reportedly will

'choose up' for All-Star Game

The NHL has decided to change the format for the 2011 All-Star Game in Carolina. The Canadian Press, citing an unidentified source, reported two captains will choose players from either conference to make up the teams. The sides will be determined during a live television event at the start of All-Star weekend. Under the format, players will earn a trip to the game as they did in the past with fans voting for the starters. NHL vice president Brendan Shanahan developed the idea and discussed the change during GM meetings in Toronto Tuesday.

ESPN: Newtons' admission

ESPN is reporting on its website that Auburn quarterback Cam Newton and his father each had a phone conversation with a Mississippi State recruiter that acknowledged a pay-for-play arrangement for the prized recruit.

One of the recruiters said Cecil Newton told him before Cam Newton committed to Auburn that it would take "more than a scholarship" for his son to attend Mississippi State. An unidentified source said another recruiter received a phone call from an emotional Cam Newton after he committed to the Tigers, when he said his father selected Auburn for him because "the money was too much."

Colorado fires Hawkins

Dan Hawkins was fired as football coach at Colorado three days after the biggest meltdown in school history put a cap on his five failed seasons with the Buffaloes. Colorado blew a 28-point, fourth-quarter lead in Saturday's loss to Kansas. Athletic director Mike Bohn promoted assistant Brian Cabral to interim coach for the final three games.
