Glen Johnson replaces Mikkel Kessler, Super Six back on track
Showtime's Super Six tournament was on the verge of falling apart the last couple of weeks.
With Mikkel Kessler, who exited the tournament because of an eye injury last week, and Jermain Taylor long gone, many were wondering if the six-man super middleweight tournament could survive.
Making matters worse was the Andre Dirrell-Andre Ward controversy. The two fighters didn't sign a deal to fight until last Monday. It was a fight that was originally set for September 25. The fight is set for November 27. No venue has been secured.
But things are getting back to normal. Glen Johnson will replace Kessler and take on Allan Green on November 6. Johnson, a light heavyweight, will drop down to 168 for the fight.
Rather than modify the tournament, the Group State 3 round can go on as planned.
Ward is the only fighter who has secured a spot in the semifinals. The other fighters, Dirrell, Arthur Abraham, Carl Froch, Johnson and Green, must win to move on.
Froch and Abraham will face each other on November 27 in Helsinki, Finland.
