Mikkel Kessler and Carl Froch ready to square off
Mikkel Kessler is going to need a win against Carl Froch to stay alive in SHOWTIME's World Boxing Classic.
The two will square off in a Group State 2 12-round super middleweight bout on April 24 from MCH Herning, Denmark. The fight will be broadcast same-day tape at 9 p.m. on SHOWETIME
Kessler (42-2, 32 KOs) has a lot in his favor this time around. The fight is in his native Denmark. "Never in my life have I lost a fight in Denmark," Kessler said during the kickoff press conference. "My home fans give me the extra five percent I need to defeat Froch. I will knock him out."
Kessler was stopped in the 11th round by Andre Ward in a Stage 1 Super-Six bout last November.
Froch (26-0, 20 KOs), who won by split decision over Andre Dirrel in his first Super-Six bout in October, will also have some crowd support. The undefeated British native is confident thousands of his countrymen will make the trek to Denmark.
"I will be bringing the Froch army of fans," said the WBC super middleweight champ. "I have been received very well here. Everything has been organized perfectly, so my fans will have a good time in Herning."
