Next challenge for Amir Khan: Unify the belts
The 140-pound division is arguably the deepest in the sport. If you let Amir Khan tell it, he is going to unify the belts in short order.
After his tremendous showing against a quality fighter in Paulie Malignaggi, he may very well reach that goal.
Khan easliy matched Malignaggi step-for-step and delivered a steady flow of jabs and short rights. Malignaggi has an excellent chin, which is why he wasn't dropped earlier in the fight. That notwithstandign, Khan was just the better man.
The question is how long will Khan stay at 140 pounds? With the likes of Floyd Mayweather Jr., Manny Pacquiao, Miguel Cotto and Andre Berto looming in the welterweight division, the logical step would be to move up for a more lucrative bout.
But Khan said he still has some unfinished business at 140 pounds.
"I'm not leaving 140 pounds until I unify the belts," said the WBA super lightweight champ.
Khan said he "definitely" wants a shot at Timothy Bradley and or Devon Alexander.
"Let's do it," Khan said.
When asked about Marcos Rene Maidana, Khan said he is ready and willing.
Khan said of Maidana: "If he wants to fight me, tell him to get in the ring."
