Nick Argyris loses LI debut

Newsday's Nick Spangler wrote this excellent feature on heavyweight boxer Nick Argyris in Thursday's paper.
Unfortunately, Argyris was stopped in the first round in his bout Thursday night at the Plattdeutsch Park Restaurant, in Franklin Square. Corey Winfield knocked Argyris down three times, forcing the referee to stop the fight.
Other results were:
Plainview's Tommy Rainone won a 10-round decision over Robbie Cannon (12-8-2). Rainone (19-5) won the IBA Americas welterweight title.
Brooklyn's Cindy Serrano (19-5-2) outscored Angel Gladney (7-7-1) to win a unanimous six-round decision.
Oceanside's Mike Brooks (9-0) won a six-round majority decision over Bryan Acaba (3-2) in a lightweight fight.
Hicksville's Anthony Karperis (3-0), a former New York Golden Gloves champ, won a four-round majority decision over Ray velez (2-3) in a welterweight bout.
New Hyde Park's Rich Neves won a four-round over Willie Bryant in the junior middleweight division. Neves improved to 6-0-1 while Bryant dropped to 1-5-1.
Dario Socca, of Westchester via Italy, improved to 2-0 with a unanimous four-round win over Emmanuel Medina (2-2-1) in a welterweight fight.
