Shane Mosley and Sergio Mora fight to a Draw
It's Shane Mosley (46-6, 39 KOs) vs. Sergio Mora (22-1, 6 KOs) in a 12-round 154-pound bout.
Both fighters are looking to prove something. Mosley needs to prove he still has it at 39, while Mora is still climbing the ladder. I'm not sure who the winner of this fight will get. At the very least, they will get the respect they are looking for. We'll be back at the end of round three with some analysis.
Rounds 1-3: The first three rounds were uneventful to say the least. Neither fighter did much to press the action. When Mosley came forward, Mora backed up. Mosley won round 1 by virtue of one good straight left. Mora took round 2 after landing two good combos. Mosley took the third, landing two really good straigh lefts. Mosley leads, 29-28 (2-1).
Rounds 4-6: Again, neither fighter has taken control. Mosley is trying to press the action, but Mora is doing a good job of slipping and ducking. Mosley took rounds 4 and 5 based on his ability to hit Mora on the body. But Mora did a great job of slipping in the straight rights, taking round 6. Mosley leads 58-56 (4-2).
Round 7-9: Mosley showed some fatigue in the seventh round and Mora took advantage, picking and choosing when to land his shots. As a result, Mosley began chasing Mora midway through the round. Round 8 featured more of the same, but Mosley landed several power shots to the body. He followed suit in round 9. But Mora took rounds 7 and 8. Mosley won round 9. Mosley leads 86-85 (5-4).
Round 10-12: There were several great exchanges in the 10th round. Mosley landed more shots and was a little sharper, but Mora made his presence felt. Mosley continued to keep the pressure on in the 11th and landed several power shots to the body. He landed an excellent straight right with about 45 seconds left in the 11th. Mosley out worked Mora in the 12th. Mora landed a few shots, but not enough to win the 12th. Mosely, Mosley, like a true champ, let it all hang out toward the end and won the final three rounds and the fight. Mosley wins the fight 116-112.
I had it 116-112 Mosley
The Judges scored it: 115-113 (Mora), 116-112 (Mosley), 114-114 (DRAW)
Analysis: This was an extremely difficult fight to judge. Several rounds could've went either way, which explains why the judging seemed so inconsistent. In the end, you can't kill the judges for this one. Mora seemed to be in control a lot, but he never hurt mosley and mosley landed more shots. Tough fight. I don't expect to see a rematch here.
