Wladimir Klitschko vs. David Haye: It could be a long wait

The heavyweight division has been in need of a jolt for over a decade now.

With no Mike Tyson or Lennox Lewis in the fold and a seriously diminished Evander Holyfield, there hasn't been a lot to watch, especially in the United States.

UK heavyweight upstart David Haye (24-1, 22 KOs), the current WBA heavyweight champ, is out to change all of that. After sending John Ruiz into retirement with a dominating performance in early April, Haye could emerge as the next big name in the heavyweight division.

The hope is that Haye will eventually hook up with WBO and IBF heavyweight champ Wladimir Klitschko (54-3, 48 KOs). Haye had a chance to fight Klitschko two years ago, but pulled out citing a back injury.

Well now he's back and he wants Klitschko. The two have been reportedly working behind the scenes for a unification bout. 

 The problem is Ruslan Chagaev. Chagaev had an easy time scoring a unanimous-decision win (118-110, 117-111, 117-112) over Kali Meehan in a WBA eliminator bout on Saturday.

That win made Chagaev the mandatory challenger for Haye.

The question is does what does Haye want more? To unify the belts or a shot at Klitschko. With heavyweight boxing a big sport over seas, the chance to topple boxing's top heavyweight may be the bigger lure.

Let's hope that ends up being the case.
