Byrd's layup lifts Adelphi past Merrimack
Richard Byrd hit a layup with 53 seconds left to lift Adelphi over Merrimack, 58-57, yesterday in Northeast- 10 basketball.
Richard Harkins' two free throws with 2:41 left pulled the Panthers (10-5, 6-5) within a point. David Akinyooye had 24 points and 15 rebounds and Byrd added 13 points and seven rebounds. Darin Mency had 27 points for Merrimack (9-5, 5-5).
Suffolk CC 81, Rockland CC 75: Keith Anderson scored 18 points and Bob Nagelberg added 17 for Suffolk CC (2-7 Region XV), which had five players score in double figures.
Goucher 59, USMMA 58: Marcus Cotton' three-pointer at the buzzer won it for Goucher (3-9, 1-4 Landmark). Kevin Kerr's three gave USMMA a 58-56 lead with 41 seconds left. Kerr and Michael Farace each scored nine points for USMMA (7-8, 2-3).

Adelphi 54, Merrimack 45: Ashley Ciafa scored 19 points and Samantha Breidenbach had 10 points and nine rebounds for Adelphi (4-8, 4-7 NE-10).
Farmingdale State 75, St. Joseph's (LI) 53: Nikita Green scored 18 points to lead Farmingdale State (9-4, 7-2 Skyline). Kathleen Lamb had 14 points for St. Joseph's (5-9, 3-5).
New Hampshire 75, Stony Brook 68: Cari Reed had 21 points for New Hampshire (4-13, 1-4 AE). Senior Kirsten Jeter scored a career-high 27 points for Stony Brook (3-13, 0-4).
Dowling 59, C.W. Post 44: Julia Koppl had 15 points and six rebounds for Dowling (8-8, 6-3 ECC). Connie Simmons added 11 points, eight rebounds and seven assists. Post is 7-7, 5-4.
Nassau CC 63, Manhattan CC 44: Tricia Courtney had 17 points and six rebounds and Melanie O'Brien added 12 points and 13 rebounds for Nassau CC (3-1 Region XV). Deanna Miller had 11 points, 12 rebounds and three assists.
Suffolk CC 90, Hostos CC 54: Ashley Drumgole had 20 points and 15 rebounds for Suffolk CC-Selden (4-1 Region XV).
WRESTLINGHofstra 3-1 in CAA Duals. Lou Ruggirello (133 pounds), Vince Varela (141) and P.J. Gillespie and Paul Snyder at 285 each went 4-0 as the Pride had wins against Boston University, Old Dominion and George Mason in the CAA Duals in Fairfax, VA. They lost in the opening round to defending champion Binghamton.
