Freshman Dave Coley scored two baskets in the final three minutes, including a driving layup with 1.2 seconds left to lift Stony Brook to a 54-53 men's basketball non-conference win over Holy Cross last night in Worcester, Mass.
The win halted a three-game losing streak for the Seawolves, who dropped its previous three games by a combined eight points.
Danny Carter was the only Stony Brook player in double figures with 10 points.
Coley shot 4-for-9 from the field and finished with nine points. Bryan Dougher added eight points and three assists and junior Al Rapier chipped in seven points.
It was a rough first half offensively for the Seawolves (4-4), who shot just 25 percent from the field and trailed 28-20 at the intermission.
But Stony Brook, sparked by an opportunistic defense and a more consistent offensive attack in the second half, outscored the Crusaders 34-25 in the final 20 minutes.
Holy Cross (0-7) led 53-48 with a little more than three minutes left and shot 46.8 percent from the field, compared with 35.8 for Stony Brook.
But the Crusaders committed 22 turnovers, leaving the door open for the Seawolves.
Devin Brown led the Crusaders with 21 points and R.J. Evans had 11.
