Adelphi wins; Byrd nearing record
Richard Byrd pulled within two points of the school record after scoring 19 Saturday in Adelphi's 69-63 win over American International in Northeast-10 basketball.
The senior, who has 1,896 points, needs just two more points to break the school record held by Malcolm Dowdy (1987-1991).
David Akinyooye added nine points and 13 rebounds and Richard Harkins had 17 points and seven assists for the Panthers (16-9, 12-9). Isaiah Wallace scored 20 points for AIC (19-7, 15-6).
Farmingdale State 85, Sage 74: Josh Smith had 19 points and eight rebounds to lead Farmingdale State (16-9, 15-5 Skyline). John Dabney added 17 points, Keith Nandin 14 points and five assists, and Jermaine Abraham had nine points and 15 rebounds. Dalt Austin-Michaud scored 23 points for Sage (13-12, 10-10).
Mercy 82, Molloy 76: Ed Wilson had 20 points and Hasan Powell had four points and 13 assists for Mercy (2-22, 2-17 ECC). Jimmy Nolan and Tolulade Jegede each scored 14 points for Molly (8-16, 8-11).
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
St. Thomas Aquinas 71, C.W. Post 69: Brianna Sloper's layup at the buzzer won it for STAC (19-7, 15-4 ECC), which clinched the conference title. Janea Aiken's jumper with five seconds left had tied the score for Post (12-12, 10-9). Theresa Dowling had 16 points for STAC. Aiken had 17 points and four assists.
Farmingdale State 69, Sage 50: Dominique Cunningham scored 12 points and Keona Jones had 12 points and 10 rebounds to lead Farmingdale State (14-4 Skyline). Chelsea Martin had 14 points for Sage (9-9).
