Farmingdale State has endured a lot this season.
The Rams overcame big deficits and an overtime game in the Skyline Tournament, and survived a 40-point outburst by Jared Suderley in Friday night's win over Hartwick in a NCAA Division III Tournament first-round game.
But the story of resiliency didn't repeat itself Saturday. Farmingdale couldn't survive a 37-point, 12-rebound effort by Noel Hollingsworth and fell to MIT, 83-63, in a second-round game in Oneonta.
The Rams (23-6) weren't right from the beginning and trailed 53-34 at the break.
Farmingdale cut the deficit to 55-42, but MIT (27-1) came back with an 18-6 run to go ahead 73-48 with 6:29 left.
Also not helping matters was AJ Matthews getting into foul trouble. The 7-foot junior finished with 11 points and five rebounds in 30 foul-plagued minutes.
Josh Smith had 16 points, Dyshaun Flournoy added 14 and Ibrahim Johnson scored 11 for Farmingdale State.
Hollingsworth got help from Will Tashman (16 points) and Jamie Karraker (12).
