Farmingdale's Matthews named MET D-III POY

Farmingdale State center A.J. Matthews was named 2011-12 All-Met Division III men’s college basketball player of the year Wednesday by the Met Basketball Writers Assn.
The 7-0 junior from Brooklyn led the nation in rebounds (16.3) and was third nationally with 3.7 blocks per game. Matthews finished 11th in the NCAA in scoring (22.4), 12th with a .614 field goal percentage and helped lead the Rams to the second round of the NCAA Division III tournament.
Matthews, who had 26 double doubles in 27 games played and set a school record in single season blocks (99), was the Skyline Conference player of the year.
St. Joseph's guard Chris Jimenez was named to the All-MET second team, while USMMA sophomore forward Reed Buck was selected to the third team.
