Hofstra starting point guard Jaquan Carlos is seeking to make a move from the Pride and placed his name in the NCAA transfer portal on Monday, he said in a social media post.

Carlos thanked Hofstra coach Speedy Claxton and his staff in the post and added, “I am elated to announce that I will be entering the transfer portal for my final year of eligibility.”

He joins more than 600 college players who were in the portal as of Monday night along with area notables Drissa Traore and Cruz Davis of St. John’s and Pride teammate Darlinstone Dubar.

Traore and Davis both placed their names in the portal last week. Traore, a 6-8 sophomore who was one of two holdovers from the 2022-23 Red Storm along with Joel Soriano, played in 26 games for St. John’s and averaged 1.8 points and 1.3 rebounds in 6.8 minutes. Davis, a 6-3 guard, was limited to four games because of a hand injury and didn’t play after the Dec. 1 win at West Virginia.

Carlos, a junior, averaged 10.4 points, 6.3 assists and 4.4 rebounds in 35.5 minutes for the Pride this season. Dubar averaged 17.8 points and 6.8 rebounds in 34.6 minutes; St. John’s is expected to be one of several programs that could show interest in Dubar.

Carlos opened his three-paragraph dispatch by saying, “These past three years with the Pride have been nothing but amazing. I have learned so much about myself and my life. My family and I are very appreciative. The Pride community will always hold a special place in my heart.”
