Jenkins helps Hofstra past UNC-Wilmington
Charles Jenkins had 22 points and five assists and led two other players in double figures as the visiting Pride topped UNC-Wilmington, 71-64, in a CAA game last night.
It was a quick turnaround for Hofstra, which suffered a lopsided loss to Wright State on Saturday in an ESPN "Bracketbuster" game.
Hofstra is 19-10 and 13-4 in the CAA and moved ahead of VCU (21-9, 12-5), a 64-60 loser at Drexel, for sole possession of third place in the conference.
Mike Moore had 20 points and sophomore David Imes added 12 points and tied a career high with 17 rebounds for the Pride.
"We got contributions from a lot of different people," Hofstra coach Mo Cassara said. "David Imes was fantastic on the boards at both ends and really played with a lot of energy."
Chad Tomko had 21 points for UNC-Wilmington (13-16, 7-10).
With the score tied at 59 late in the second half, Imes hit a short jumper and Moore added three free throws during a 9-2 run that put Hofstra up 68-61 with 41 seconds left.
