Jerrell Matthews, Shania Johnson lead SBU women to 4th win in row

Jerrell Matthews and Shania Johnson each had 15 points as the Stony Brook women’s basketball team won its fourth straight game, 62-56, against host New Hampshire on Saturday. It is the first time since the 2015-16 season that the Seawolves (17-11, 9-6 America East) are on a four-game conference win streak. Matthews was 3 of 7 on three-pointers and added five assists, and Johnson scored 10 of her points in the second half, and added three three-pointers and six assists.
Stony Brook outrebounded New Hampshire (17-11, 8-7) 31-29 and is now 13-0 this season when outrebounding its opponents. The Seawolves, who have won nine of their last 12 America East games, move into fourth place in the conference with one week remaining in the regular season.
LIU Post 77, St. Thomas Aquinas 66: Sasha Patterson had 17 points and 17 rebounds for LIU Post (20-6, 15-1 ECC) which moves into first place in the ECC by a half-game ahead of St. Thomas (23-5, 15-2). Alex Bertolino had 20 points in the loss. Shannon Doyle had 14 points and seven rebounds, and Mikaiya Moore and Kylie Garrett each had 12 points for the Pioneers, who had 25 second-chance points and outscored the St. Thomas bench by a 24-10 margin.
NYIT 72, District of Columbia 46: Maia Hood had 18 points and nine rebounds for NYIT (16-10, 10-6 ECC). Taylor Tripptree and Corinn Baggs each had eight points for the Bears, who led comfortably 36-13 at the half. Daeja Quick had 26 points for District of Columbia (4-23, 2-15).
SUNY-Old Westbury 75, Mount St. Vincent 59: Monique Joseph had 27 points, nine rebounds, and eight steals for Old Westbury (20-3, 14-3 Skyline). Tori Bellings had 15 points and Charlotte Renker added 14 points for the Panthers, who led 29-18 at the half. Kelly Oliver had 19 points, eight rebounds and eight steals for Mount St. Vincent (11-10, 9-8).
Farmingdale State 65, USMMA 49: Alexis Antonacci had a game-high 20 points with four steals for Farmingdale State (14-11, 13-5 Skyline). Essence Casey added 16 points, five steals and five assists for the Rams, who jumped out to a 38-20 halftime lead. Farmingdale had 22 steals and scored 33 points off 32 USMMA turnovers. Shelby Peters had 13 points and nine rebounds for USMMA (16-8, 12-6).
St. Joseph’s (Brooklyn) 76, St. Joseph’s (L.I.) 63: Andrea Iavarone had 27 points and 27 rebounds, including 10 on offense for St. Joseph’s (L.I.) (9-16, 6-12 Skyline). Victoria Porcasi had 28 points, five rebounds and four assists for St. Joseph’s (Brooklyn) (11-14, 9-9).
MEN’S BASKETBALL
Farmingdale State 67, Mount St. Vincent 58: Liam Monaghan (19 points, five rebounds) and Matthew Graham (8 points) combined to hit 9 of 10 free throws in the final 1:38 as the Rams (18-7, 16-4 Skyline) used a 44-17 run to come back from an 18-point second-half deficit. Andrew Curiel had 18 points and 11 rebounds for MSV (15-10, 13-7).
SUNY-Old Westbury 72, USMMA 68: Brandon Thomson (7 points) and Yancy Ulysse (5 points, 9 rebounds) each hit a free throw in the final 18 seconds as Old Westbury (12-13, 11-9 Skyline) held off a furious late rally from USMMA (9-15, 7-13). Christian Wittendorf had 13 points in 18 minutes off the bench for USMMA. Preston Powell had a game-high 19 points for Old Westbury.
Mount St. Mary’s College 74, St. Joseph’s (L.I.) 67: Senior Isaiah Moore had 23 points and nine rebounds for St. Joseph’s (5-20, 5-15 Skyline) in its regular-season finale. Moore ends his career with 1,124 points (sixth all-time in SJC history) and 455 rebounds (eighth best). Andrew Holmes had 19 points and six rebounds for Mount St. Mary’s (13-12, 13-7) which scored 10 of the game’s final 14 points.
NYIT 89, District of Columbia 69: Jeffrey Hayden had 28 points and Kieran Hamilton added 20 for NYIT (4-24, 2-14 ECC) which snapped a 12-game losing streak with its first win since Jan. 6. Tyler Ancrum had 10 points and 13 assists. Danny Shand had 20 points for District of Columbia (7-19, 5-12).
St. Thomas Aquinas 77, LIU Post 64: Jared Rivers had 17 points for LIU Post (10-16, 8-8 ECC). James Mitchell and Justin Reyes each had 17 points for St. Thomas (23-6, 14-3) which outscored Post in the paint by a 36-12 margin.
