The talent pipeline never runs dry at Kentucky since coach John Calipari arrived. It hasn't resulted in a national title yet, but if the Wildcats' blistering second-half performance in their 75-65 defeat of Kansas Tuesday night at Madison Square Garden is any indication, that might change soon.
The Wildcats, who lost in the national semifinals last season, returned preseason All-American Terrence Jones (15 points, 7 rebounds, 4 blocks), who passed up the NBA draft in anticipation of labor problems, and Queens product Doron Lamb (17 points). They added three freshmen starters in 6-10 Anthony Davis (14 points, 6 rebounds, 7 blocks), hard-nosed wing man Michael Kidd-Gilchrist (12 points, 8 rebounds) and point guard Marquis Teague (12 points).
In the second half, Kentucky broke out of a 28-all tie with a 26-9 run that included nine points apiece by Teague, who drove inside, and Lamb, who nailed three three-pointers for a 57-40 lead. It was too much for Kansas, which got 22 points from Tyshawn Taylor and 11 points and 12 rebounds from Thomas Robinson.
