No. 2 Kansas holds off Oklahoma State
Mario Little's three-point play broke a tie with 71 seconds to go and Oklahoma State missed a desperation heave at the buzzer, allowing No. 2 Kansas to escape with a 63-62 victory yesterday in the second round of the Big 12 Tournament in Kansas City, Mo.
Big 12 player of the year Marcus Morris, shut down most of the second half, hit a key three-pointer for the Jayhawks (30-2). Kansas trailed by as many as eight until Oklahoma State got in deep foul trouble in the second half.
Texas 74, Oklahoma 54: Jordan Hamilton had 22 points and 10 rebounds and Tristan Thompson added 13 points and 11 rebounds for 10th-ranked Texas (26-5) in a Big 12 quarterfinal.
Colorado 87, Kansas St. 75: In another Big 12 matchup, Cory Higgins scored 28 points as Colorado (21-12) beat No. 19 Kansas State (22-10) for the third time this season and improved its chances for an NCAA bid.
BYU 64, TCU 58: Jimmer Fredette scored 24 points and No. 8 BYU overcame a slow start in the Mountain West Conference quarterfinals. With suspended teammate Brandon Davies watching from the bench, the top-seeded Cougars (29-3) had a tougher time than expected against a TCU team that went 1-15 in conference play.
Tennessee 74, Arkansas 68: Freshman Tobias Harris of Dix Hills scored 20 points for the Volunteers (19-13), who recovered after blowing a 16-point lead in the opening round of the Southeastern Conference Tournament in Atlanta.
Mich. St. 66, Iowa 61: Draymond Green had 21 points and 14 rebounds to boost Michigan State in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament in Indianapolis and keep its NCAA Tournament hopes alive. Michigan State (18-13) has played in the last two Final Fours but is considered on the bubble this year.
Boston College 81, Wake Forest 67:Reggie Jackson scored 27 points for Boston College (20-11) in the first round of the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament in Greensboro, N.C. The Eagles will face Clemson in a quarterfinal matchup of NCAA bubble teams. -- AP
