No. 5 North Carolina beats Texas
Harrison Barnes scored a season-high 26 points to help No. 5 North Carolina beat Texas, 82-63, Wednesday night in Chapel Hill. John Henson added 14 points for the Tar Heels (11-2), who won their fifth straight and avenged last season's last-second loss to the Longhorns.
Hartley sparks UConn
Former North Babylon star Bria Hartley had 15 points as No. 2 Connecticut overpowered host College of Charleston, 72-24. The Cougars (2-8) shot 7-for-49 (14 percent) and committed 24 turnovers.
The Huskies (10-1) lost, 66-61, Sunday to No. 1 Baylor. They haven't lost two in a row since March 1993, a streak of 660 games.
It was the second-best defensive effort ever by the Huskies. They held Quinnipiac to 20 points in 1998.
Elsewhere in the Top 25, Maggie Lucas had 22 points for No. 16 Penn State (10-2) in a 78-54 win over host Bucknell.
Stony Brook women win
Host Stony Brook (2-10) used a 12-0 run midway through the second half to pull away for a 65-48 win over Morgan State (2-7). Freshman Kellie Krueger's career-high 14 points led the Seawolves, and Sam Landers scored 13. Stony Brook had a 45-28 rebounding edge and made 7 of 15 three-point tries.
