First collegiate women's game at Garden
A rematch of the 1973 national championship game was the first women's college basketball game ever played at Madison Square Garden. Three-time defending national champion Immaculata defeated Queens College, 65-31, before a crowd of 11,969. Mary Schraff scored 12 points for Immaculata, which won the AIAW titles from 1972-74 and lost in the final in 1975-76. The team featured Marianne Stanley, who went on to coach Old Dominion and in the WNBA. In the second game of the doubleheader, Fairfield defeated Massachusetts, 78-67, with most of the crowd gone by halftime.
