Payton, Evans pace Hofstra women over Stetson

Junior guard Annie Payton scored a career-high 17 points and Shante Evans had 13 points and 12 rebounds for the Hofstra women in a 77-75 win over Stetson in the WBI Tip-Off Classic in Daytona Beach, Fla., Friday.
Freshman guard Asia Jackson added 13 points for the Pride in a season opener.
Texas 70, St. John's 60: Junior guard Briana Brown had career highs of 17 points and 10 rebounds for No. 14 St. John's at the WBI Tip-Off Classic. Nneka Enemkpali led Texas with 25 points and 12 rebounds.
Rider 62, Stony Brook 50: Sabre Proctor and Kim Hanlon each had 11 points for host Stony Brook in its non-conference season-opener.
