Prahalis scores 28 to spur Ohio State
Commack's Samantha Prahalis scored 28 points to go with eight assists and eight rebounds to lead host No. 18 Ohio State (5-0) to a 77-68 victory over No. 20 LSU (3-3) Sunday in women's college basketball.
"We weren't aware of where Sammy was, giving her some quality looks -- and she knocked them down," LSU coach Nikki Caldwell said.
"She's a great player," Tayler Hill (23 points) said of her 5-7 running mate. "She's the smallest player on the court, but she has the biggest heart."
"I was feeling it and [my teammates] were finding me," said Prahalis, the Buckeyes' lone senior. "I just happened to have the hot hand tonight."
Baylor 76, Tennessee 67: Preseason All-America center Brittney Griner scored 17 of her 26 points in the second half as top-ranked Baylor defeated host No. 6 Tennessee.
"I was just listening to my coaches and getting on myself, 'Get deep, get deep, get the ball and go up strong,' " Griner said.
Baylor (6-0) entered the game averaging 53.8 rebounds but Tennessee (2-2) outmanned the Lady Bears on the glass 55-42. The second chances weren't enough with the Lady Vols shooting just 29.3 percent.
"We took their best shot," Baylor coach Kim Mulkey said. "How many games are you going to get outrebounded as much as we did, particularly on the offensive end, and win?"
Odyssey Sims had 23 points for Baylor, which also beat then-No. 2 Notre Dame on Nov. 20. It has a Dec. 18 meeting with current No. 2 Connecticut.
"Baylor is a great team, and I don't think we'll see one any better," Tennessee coach Pat Summitt said.
Connecticut 78, Dayton 38: No. 2 Connecticut won its 89th straight at home to set an NCAA record. Freshman Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis led the way for UConn (6-0) with 23 points and North Babylon's Bria Hartley and Stefanie Dolson each had 11 points. Dayton is 3-3.
