St. John's upsets Rutgers

Nadirah McKenith had 18 points, Da'Shena Stevens scored 16 and Shenneika Smith had 11 for St. John's in a 61-52 upset of host No. 17 Rutgers Sunday.

Kim Barnes Arico, a native of Mastic Beach, became the winningest women's basketball coach in St. John's history with her 169th win in her 10th season, breaking a tie with Joe Mullaney Jr.

It was the fourth straight win for the Red Storm (17-8, 9-3 Big East), which led 32-19 at halftime. Rutgers got as close as four points with 47 seconds to play. Khadijah Rushdan had 17 points for Rutgers (17-7, 6-5), which missed 21 of its first 25 shots and lost its fourth consecutive game.

Hofstra 82, George Mason 70: Shante Evans had a game-high 28 points and senior guard Candice Bellocchio scored the 1,000th point of her career for Hofstra (17-7, 9-4 Colonial Athletic Association) in Fairfax, Va. Evans moved into seventh place all-time in Hofstra scoring with 1,470 career points. George Mason is 12-12, 6-7.

West Virginia 65, Notre Dame 63: Brooke Hampton made two free throws with 4.6 seconds left as West Virginia shocked No. 2 Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind., snapping the Irish's 21-game winning streak. Asya Bussie had 22 points, including a turnaround jumper with 39 seconds to go that tied the game at 63 for West Virginia (18-6, 8-3 Big East). Skyler Diggins had 32 points for Notre Dame (24-2, 11-1).

Ohio St. 80, Purdue 71: Commack's Samantha Prahalis hit a three-pointer from the right wing with 41 seconds left, giving host No. 10 Ohio State (22-3, 9-3 Big Ten) the boost it needed to hold off No. 16 Purdue (19-6, 9-3). Prahalis scored 26 points. -- AP
