St. John's women rout BU, 75-38
For the first time all season, St. John's women had their entire roster intact yesterday and the Red Storm trounced visiting Boston University, 75-38, in their final nonconference game of the season at Carnesecca Arena.
Junior point guard Nadirah McKenith returned to the court after missing the last three games with a sprained knee. Senior forward Da'Shena Stevens (knee), who came off the bench the previous two games after missing the first 10, made her first start of the season.
Eugeneia McPherson and Shenneika Smith led St. John's (8-6) with 15 points each. Mary Nwachukwu had 11 points and Amber Thompson 10 points and nine rebounds.
"I'm so glad to have [McKenith] back," McPherson said. "She makes the game easier for everyone."
McKenith had four points, four assists and eight rebounds in 22 minutes and Stevens had four points and two rebounds in 27 minutes. Chantell Alford led BU (7-6) with 12 points.
"It was really great for the first time all year to have our team together," said Storm coach Kim Barnes Arico, whose team shot 54.7 percent from the field. "I thought you got a glimpse of what we're capable of doing."
NYIT 70, St. Joseph's (L.I.) 55: Rebecca Lynch had 16 points, Cierra Baker scored 15 points, and Chloe Johnson and Alexandra Venuto had 11 points each for NYIT (7-4) in non-conference. Amanda Bender and Nicole Redding had 14 points each for St. Joseph's (5-5).
MEN'S BASKETBALL
Felician 69, NYIT 60: Kayvon Roberts and Antoine Brown had 15 points each to lead NYIT (3-7) in non-conference. Ryan Williams added 11 points for NYIT. Anthony Green had 16 points and John Tello chipped in 15 points for Felician (3-7).
