St. John's women top Temple
Eugeneia McPherson and Nadirah McKenith each had 13 points and four assists as St. John's beat Temple, 59-53, in the Junkanoo Jam women's basketball tournament in Freeport, Bahamas.
Amber Thompson scored 12 points and Shenneika Smith had eight points, 10 rebounds and three steals for the Red Storm (3-3).
St. John's, still playing without All-Big East forward Da'Shena Stevens (knee), overcame a 12-point deficit in the first half and took its first lead at 45-43 on Tesia Harris' layup with 8:09 remaining.
Shey Peddy scored 16 points and Kristen McCarthy added 11 points for Temple (2-4). The Red Storm will host Howard on Wednesday at Carnesecca Arena.
C.W. Post 79, Caldwell 70:Felicia Joyner had 18 points and five rebounds, and Nicolette Marciniak had 14 points and 11 rebounds to lead C.W. Post, which led from start to finish. The Pioneers (4-1) had five scorers in double-figures, including Ashley Caggiano, who added 13 points and five assists. Jeanette Anderson scored 24 points for Caldwell (1-3).
Dowling 58, Felician 52: Connie Simmons had 14 points and 16 rebounds to lead Dowling (3-0) in the Dowling College Holiday Tournament. Julia Koppl added 10 points and four rebounds. Destiny Barnette scored 16 points for Felician (1-3).
MEN'S BASKETBALL
Nassau CC 82, Springfield Tech CC (Md.) 53:Chris Mauldin had 19 points and five assists and Malcolm Moore added 12 points and four assists to lead Nassau CC (4-1). Springfield Tech CC is 1-5.
