Stony Brook cut an 11-point second-half deficit to two before losing to Fordham, 41-37, in a women's basketball game Sunday at Pritchard Gymnasium.

Whitney Davis had 10 points and junior Gerda Gatling added seven points and a career-high 13 rebounds, seven offensive, for Stony Brook (1-8). The Seawolves outrebounded the Rams 44-31. Arielle Collins and Charlotte Stoddart had 10 points each for the Rams (6-4).

"Our defense and rebounding this afternoon was outstanding,'' SBU coach Beth O'Boyle said. "We just didn't make enough shots to win.''

The Rams went ahead 33-22 on Becky Peters' basket with 9:25 left, but freshman Kellie Krueger's basket with 1:09 remaining capped an 11-2 run and moved the Seawolves within 35-33. Davis hit a jumper to make it 37-35 with 14 seconds to go and sank another to bring SBU within 39-37 with 1.4 seconds left, but Collins hit two free throws with six-tenths of a second to play.
