The St. John’s women lost a valuable piece to their puzzle in Nadirah McKenith during the team’s loss to Baylor last Sunday. But the pain of that loss was dulled a bit by the return of senior forward Da’Shena Stevens.
Stevens, in her fast action of the season against Prairie View A&M at the St. John’s Holiday Classic at Carnesecca Arena, had five points, six rebounds, four assists and four steals in a 66-50 win. North Babylon graduate Eugeneia McPherson continued her hot play and led the Red Storm (6-5) with 20 points, five steals and four rebounds.
As for McKenith, the diagnosis on her injured right knee wasn’t as bad as some thought it might be. An MRI revealed a sprain. The junior guard is expected to miss at least two weeks with a return shortly after the New Year begins.
McKenith (13.4 ppg) is St. John’s second leading scorer and top passer (4.9 ast).
