Tavon Sledge didn't waste any time finding a new home.
The 5-9 point guard is transferring to Iona, according to SNY.TV. Sledge, a freshman who starred at Half Hollow Hills West High School, played sparingly at Iowa State this season.
Per NCAA transfer rules, he'll have to sit out next season. But he'll have three years of eligibility when he takes the court for the 2013-2014 season.
What does this mean for the Gaels? It means they have their point guard of the future. Sledge didn't play much in the Big 12, but he should have no problems succeeding in the MAAC. This also proves Cluess can recruit.
Based on Gaels coach Tim Cluess' success with point guards, Sledge could be a star. Scotty Machado led the nation in the assists and helped the Gaels to an NCAA at-large berth.
During his years at C.W. Post, Cluess had the likes of Jonathan Schmidt and Gil Montalvo running the point. Don't expect much of a drop off when Sledge takes over the position in 2013.
“[Iona] gave me a vision of a place where I could improve my game a lot more and help me succeed,” Sledge told SNY.tv. “They told me I’m going to be a starter. I’ll have the opportunity to run the team and be the facilitator on the floor and help the team win.”
