Iowa holds down Denard

Ricky Stanzi threw his third touchdown pass to Derrell Johnson-Koulianos early in the fourth quarter, helping No. 15 Iowa (5-1) hold off host Michigan, 38-28, yesterday.

Michigan (5-2) outgained the Hawkeyes, 522-383, but had four turnovers. Tate Forcier came in for a banged-up Denard Robinson (105 yards rushing, 13-for-18, 96 yards, 1 INT) and threw a 45-yard pass to Junior Hemingway and also had a 3-yard run to make it 28-21 with 6:55 to play. Robinson left during the third quarter with a shoulder injury. Michigan has a bye next week and Robinson is expected to start against Penn State on Oct. 30.

Irish romp

Michael Floyd caught three touchdown passes, including 80 yards on the first play from scrimmage, and had 157 yards receiving as host Notre Dame (4-3) pulled away in the third quarter to beat Western Michigan, 44-20, for its third straight victory.

Pitt drops Syracuse

Devin Street caught a short bubble screen pass from Dino Sunseri on Pittsburgh's first play from scrimmage and raced 79 yards for a TD, as the Panthers (3-3, 1-0 Big East) beat host Syracuse, 45-14.- AP
