Rough day for ACC

In addition to No. 13 Virginia Tech's loss to FBS school James Madison and No. 12 Miami's loss at Ohio State, No. 17 Florida State got rolled at Oklahoma, and No. 15 Georgia Tech was picked off at unranked Kansas. There's a distinct possibility that Miami will be the only ACC team in the top 25 in the next poll.

A week after getting stung by North Dakota State in Turner Gill's coaching debut for host Kansas, Gill put redshirt freshman Jordan Webb in at quarterback and he threw three touchdown passes in a 28-25 victory over Georgia Tech (1-1).

Host Oklahoma (2-0), ranked No. 10, scored touchdowns on its first four possessions to blow out No. 17 Florida State, 47-10. Landry Jones threw for 380 yards and four TDs.

SEC ground troops

Jeff Demps ran for a career-high 139 yards and a touchdown and had 255 all-purpose yards as host No. 8 Florida bounced back from a lackluster opener to beat South Florida, 38-14 . . . Freshman tailback Marcus Lattimore rushed 37 times for 182 yards and two touchdowns to lead No. 24 South Carolina (2-0) to a 17-6 victory over No. 22 Georgia (1-1).- AP
