Jets sign former Cowboys kicker Folk
The Jets signed two free agents Tuesday, kicker Nick Folk and tackle Michael Turkovich.
Folk, 25, played 14 games with the Cowboys this past season and connected on only 18 of 28 field-goal attempts. His 10 misses were the most in the NFL, and he failed to convert seven of his last 11 tries. He was waived Dec. 21.
Folk's arrival could mean that the Jets are willing to let unrestricted free agent Jay Feely test the market, which officially opens at midnight March 5. Feely, 33, tied for third in the NFL with 30 field goals during the regular season, out of 36 attempts.
In an e-mail to Newsday, Feely wrote: "Wish we could have got a deal finished and still may, but the Jets are being prudent. All conversations have been very positive about my performance and leadership. I have never enjoyed playing for a team, an organization, a head coach or a fan base more than the Jets, so I hope to be back.''
The Cowboys signed Turkovich, 23, as an undrafted free agent in 2009. The Notre Dame product was waived Aug. 3 after suffering a knee injury during training camp.
