Penn State edges Temple

Michael Zordich scored on a 1-yard run with 2:42 left to stretch Penn State's winning streak against Temple to 29 straight games in a 14-10 victory Saturday at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.

The Owls (2-1) led for most of the game but Penn State coach Joe Paterno, watching from the press box again, improved to 28-0 vs. Temple. The Nittany Lions are 2-1.

Sooners rule

Kenny Stills reached high to grab a 37-yard touchdown pass from Landry Jones midway through the fourth quarter for the tiebreaking score, as No. 1 Oklahoma beat No. 5 Florida State, 23-13. Javon Harris picked off two passes for the Sooners (2-0).

Hanging on

Marcus Lattimore ran 37 times for a career-high 246 yards and three touchdowns to help host No. 10 South Carolina hang on for a 24-21 victory over Navy . . . Geno Smith threw for 388 yards and a touchdown on the way to a 34-10 lead, then West Virginia (3-0) held off a furious rally by host Maryland (1-1) for a 37-31 win.

Jackets rout Jayhawks

Orwin Smith carried only five times for 157 yards, including a 95-yard touchdown, as Georgia Tech racked up school records in rushing yardage (604, on only 50 carries) and total yards (768) in a 66-24 victory over Kansas in Atlanta.

Army gets first win

Trent Steelman scored three touchdowns for the second straight week, including a 1-yard plunge with 2:49 remaining, as host Army (1-2) beat Northwestern, 21-14. Steelman also scored on runs of 1 and 17 yards.-- AP
