La.-Monroe almost pulls

SEC upset again

Cody Parkey hit a 35-yard field goal in overtime yesterday to lift Auburn (1-2) to a 31-28 win over a Louisiana-Monroe (1-1) team trying to pull off another Southeastern Conference upset.

Monroe's Kolton Browning went 28-for-46 passing for 237 yards and three touchdowns, two in the final 6:15, but stalled in overtime. He also ran 14 times for 58 yards. Auburn's Angelo Blackson blocked Justin Manton's 37-yard field-goal attempt in OT.

The Warhawks (1-1) rallied from 28-7 down to shock Arkansas in overtime a week ago. This one wouldn't have been as much of a shocker against struggling Auburn, which led 28-14 midway through the fourth quarter.

Gators still own Vols

Jeff Driskel threw two touchdown passes and Trey Burton ran for a pair of scores as No. 18 Florida scored the game's final 24 points to beat No. 23 Tennessee, 37-20, in Knoxville. The Gators have won eight straight against the Vols.

Alabama romps

Eddie Lacy ran for three touchdowns and No. 1 Alabama forced five turnovers in a 52-0 win at Arkansas. Vinnie Sunseri and Haha Clinton-Dix had interceptions against the Razorbacks, who played without quarterback Tyler Wilson because he had a head injury in last week's loss to Louisiana-Monroe.

UConn edges Edsall

Lyle McCombs and Scott McCummings both ran for touchdowns, and Nick Williams returned a punt 58 yards for another score as Connecticut (2-1) defeated Maryland and former UConn coach Randy Edsall, 24-21. UConn linebacker Yawin Smallwood had 14 tackles, four for losses, including three sacks . . . Teddy Bridgewater threw three first-half touchdowns and host No. 19 Louisville scored on its first six possessions, then had to hold North Carolina on a late goal-line stand to come away with a 39-34 victory. -- AP
