Stony Brook's road woes have been a problem this season. So Bryan Dougher personally did something about it last night.

The sophomore guard had 20 points, shooting 5-for-6 from three-point range, as visiting Stony Brook earned a 65-60 America East Conference victory over first-place Vermont.

"What a terrific win for our guys on the road against an excellent Vermont team," SBU coach Steve Pikiell said. "Our guys really executed well on both ends of the court and we then stepped up and made the plays we had to make down the stretch after they made a run at us."

It was the first win at Vermont in nine tries for the Seawolves (13-7, 5-2 America East). They had dropped four of their last six road games, including the last two against conference opponents Binghamton and Maine.

Vermont (14-6, 5-1), which was led by Marqus Blakely with 17 points and 11 rebounds and Evan Fjeld with 13 points and 10 rebounds, had its winning streak halted at seven.

Dougher has hit 38 of his last 59 treys and is averaging 18.8 points in his last nine games. Chris Martin had 13 points, Muhammad El-Amin added 11 and Dallis Joyner had eight points and 10 rebounds for SBU. Garvey Young had 11 points for Vermont, which outrebounded Stony Brook 39-29.

With SBU trailing 46-45, Dougher's three-pointer sparked a 13-2 run that put the Seawolves up 58-48 with 7:28 to go, but a 12-3 run moved the Catamounts to within 61-60 with 2:29 left.

Martin answered with a steal and a layup, extending the lead to three with 31 seconds left. El-Amin and Dougher each hit a free throw in the final 17 seconds to make it 65-60.
