Dzus leads St. Joseph's over Potsdam
Terrence Dzus scored twice, including the game-winner with 1:05 left in regulation to lift St. Joseph's to a 3-2 men's soccer win over Potsdam yesterday in the MCLA tournament.
Dzus scored his first goal with 15 minutes left to tie it at 2. St. Joseph's improved to 3-1.
Dowling 1, Le Moyne College 1:Sean Dougherty scored in the 57th minute to tie the score at 1 for Dowling (2-0-1) in non-conference play. Chris Kucera had one save. Le Moyne, ranked first in the country by the NSCAA, is 1-1-1.
WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALLC.W. Post wins two.Amanda Ostapow had 30 assists and Marlena Guadagnini added 20 kills for C.W. Post (4-2) in a 25-21, 25-22, 25-19 non-league win over Pace.
Amanda Ostapow had 23 assists and 12 digs for C.W. Post (5-2) in a 25-13, 25-21, 25-13 win over Southern Connecticut in non-conference.
Nassau CC takes two: Alexa Bor- reson had 10 kills and five aces and Kate Berbenich had 22 assists for Nassau CC (5-1) in a 25-10, 25-12, 25-14 win at the Volleyball Extravaganza in Lackawanna.
In gameone, Borreson had nine kills and three aces and Colleen Bechhoff had eight kills for Nassau CC (4-1) in a 25-10, 25-22, 25-10 win.
CROSS COUNTRY
Pride men are second; women third. Hofstra senior Phil Giackette finished first as the Pride placed second with 44 points at the inaugural Walter "Brick" Stone Run at Bethpage State Park. Giackette finished the 8K race in 25 minutes, 35 seconds. Daniel Rono finished third in 26:02 and Fred Shattell was eighth (26:50) for the Pride.
Adelphi finished first among the men with 29 points, C.W. Post (70) was third, Farmingdale (98) was fifth and Suffolk CC finished sixth with 126.
In women's cross country, Freshman Kristin Mathis finished third for Hofstra, which was first overall in the 5K race with 35 points. The Pride's Meghan McCloskey was fourth (20:12), Cara Mattson finished eighth (20:58), Elizabeth Jerome (21:00) ran to a ninth-place finish, while Brittney Tower was 11th in 21:08.
Adelphi finished second, led by Betsy Eickelberg, who was first in 20:04.
C.W. Post was third with 82 points, Pace was fourth (94), Suffolk CC finished fifth with 133 and Farmingdale State (151) was sixth.
