Former Hofstra football coach Dave Cohen will join the staff at Western Michigan, a person in the university’s athletic department said Monday. Cohen will be named as the team’s defensive coordinator during a football-related press conference later Monday on the campus in Kalamazoo.

Western Michigan coach Bill Cubit, a longtime friend, reached out to Cohen after Hofstra dropped its I-AA football program in early December. Cohen had a year left on his Hofstra contract, which paid him in excess of $100,000 per year. He is expected to draw a similar salary with the 1-A program at Western Michigan.
