Gettysburg wins women's lacrosse title
Gettysburg College won its first NCAA Division III women's lacrosse title Sunday with a 16-5 rout of Bowdoin in the championship final at Adelphi University.
Hannah Church, a junior attack from Ellicott City, Md., led all scorers with five goals for Gettysburg. Her freshman teammate, Kelsey Markiewicz of Taconic, Conn., scored four.
Bowdoin's Katy Dissinger, a senior from Upper Brookville who played high school lacrosse at Friends Academy, scored twice in the championship game.
In Saturday night's semifinal, Dissinger had scored a game-high four goals in Bowdoin's 11-9 semifinal victory over The College of New Jersey, which has won the Division III title 13 times.
Only one other Long Island player, Jenn Levy, was on the rosters of Maine's Bowdoin (18-4) and Pennsylvania's Gettysburg (19-4).
Levy, a freshman goalie from Manhasset, did not see action for champion Gettysburg.
