Reggie Bush, the former USC running back, yesterday announced in a statement released by the New Orleans Saints that he was forfeiting his 2005 Heisman Trophy.

Bush is the first Heisman winner to forfeit the trophy in the 75-year history of the award.

Vince Young, then the starting quarterback at Texas, was the runner-up to Bush for the Heisman.

Today the Heisman Trust announced that award will remain vacated.

"The reasoning was that we're five years out almost and we think it is too late to attempt to have a re-vote," Bill Dockery, the Heisman Trust president told ESPN this afternoon. "Things have changed since that time. Who would ever know where the votes would go if we removed Reggie from the picture. Reggie won by approximately 900 plus votes. Vince Young was second. Matt Leinart was third. You could never recreate the exact scenario to recalibrate those votes without another vote, which we just think it's time to look forward and not look back."
