Hofstra advances to CAA softball title game
Michele DePasquale and Tessa Ziemba each had a two-run single during a five-run first inning as Hofstra cruised to an 8-1 softball win over James Madison in a CAA Tournament game yesterday.
Hofstra (42-10) advances to the CAA championship game today at noon and will face Georgia State (37-18). Hofstra sophomore Erin Wade struck out four in a three-hitter and improved to 18-4.Farmingdale State 10, Hunter 2:Rebecca Richman and Nicole Farber went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Hope Zino had four strikeouts for No. 3 Farmingdale State (31-11) in an ECAC quarterfinal. Farmingale State plays No. 2 Richard Stockton in a semifinals at 1 p.m. Saturday at Ramapo College.
BASEBALL
Briarcliffe 16, Cincinnati/Clermont 4: Dave Darcy had four hits and seven RBIs and Tim Coglietta had a two-run homer as Briarcliffe exploded for six runs in the bottom of the fourth and topped the University of Cincinnati at Claremont and won the USCAA national championship. Briarcliffe improved to 24-11. It was Briarcliffe's second USCAA title in five years.
Franklin Pierce 8, C.W. Post 1: Zack Graczyk and Mike Callaghan each went 2-for-4 for No. 5 C.W. Post (31-16-1) in the Eastern Regional of the NCAA Division II first round at Southern Connecticut. No. 2 Franklin Pierce is 37-7-1. C.W. Post plays Dominican at 11 a.m. today in an elimination game.
