Hofstra women lose to BC in NCAA soccer tournament
After tying the score at 1 in the first half, the 23rd-ranked Hofstra women's soccer team lost, 3-1, to host Boston College Sunday in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The No. 18 Eagles will host West Virginia in the Sweet 16.
Courtney Breen tied it for the Pride (19-3) on a header assisted by Amy Turner at 16:08 in the first, but with less than four minutes remaining in the half, Zoe Lombard scored the go-ahead goal for the Eagles.
Boston College (15-6-1) added its third goal in the 15th minute of the second half. Salma Tarik almost tied it for Hofstra early in the second when she got to a loose ball in the box, but a defender cleared it off the line.
"We played with heart, desire and pride," Hofstra coach Simon Riddough said. "Unfortunately, we cannot win them all. This has been a magical year."
He credited Boston College's "special players" and expressed optimism about the future of the program. "The national recognition will help, and now we have the belief that we can compete on the national level."
