CHARLESTON, S.C. — Marquise Pointer scored 19 points with four 3-pointers and six assists as College of Charleston knocked off Hofstra 72-61 on Thursday night.

Trailing 47-46 at the 13:13-mark, Pointer nailed a 3-point jumper to start a 12-4 run and give Charleston a 58-51 lead with 6:00 left. Pointer added a long trey to stretch the Cougars’ lead to 58-51 lead with 5:11 remaining. The Cougar defense then stopped Hofstra on its next three trips down the floor.

Cameron Johnson and Payton Hulsey had 12 points each for Charleston (10-4, 2-1 Colonial Athletic Association), which has won three of its last five games. Jarrell Brantley and Nick Harris chipped in 10 apiece.

Hofstra (10-5, 2-1), picked to win the conference, had won two straight conference games before falling to the Cougars.

Ameen Tanksley and Rokas Gustys had 16 each for Hofstra.
