Jeter leads Stony Brook women past Maine
Senior Kirsten Jeter scored 26 points and had a career-high seven steals to lead Stony Brook to a 66-62 women's basketball victory over Maine Saturday at Stony Brook Arena.
Jeter also pulled down seven rebounds for the Seawolves (5-19, 2-10 America East). Sophomore Juanita Cochran added 10 points and six rebounds and sophomore Sam Landers had 10 points and five assists.
Stony Brook went ahead 52-33 with 11:30 left and led 60-47 with five minutes left, but Maine (3-22, 1-12) went on a 9-1 run in the next three minutes to cut Stony Brook lead to five. Jeter hit two free throws to make it 65-60, and after Landers hit the first of two free throws to give Stony Brook a four-point lead in the final seconds, sophomore Gerda Gatling pulled down an offensive rebound of Landers' missed free throw to clinch it.
C.W. Post 75, NYIT 65: Janea Aiken had 23 points for C.W. Post (11-11, 9-8 ECC). Sierra Baker had 26 points and 14 rebounds for NYIT (7-14, 5-11).
Mount St. Vincent 75, St. Joseph's (LI) 57: Kathleen Lanb had 20 points and 12 rebounds for St. Joseph's (9-13, 6-9 Skyline). Mount St. Vincent is 8-15, 6-11.
SUNY-Old Westbury 55, SUNY-Purchase 54:Kim Weathers (20 points) hit a jumper with 10 seconds left to win it for SUNY-Old Westbury (15-6, 11-6 Skyline). SUNY-Purchase is 7-15, 7-9.Nassau CC 73, Hostos CC 51: Freshman Hannalee Fordyce had 20 points and a career-high 27 rebounds for Nassau CC (11-3, 10-3 Region XV).
Suffolk CC-Selden 58, Manhattan CC 41: Kara Nenos had 27 points and 12 rebounds for Suffolk CC (13-2) in Region XV.
Catholic University 66, USMMA 49: Tamara Kaileh scored 17 points and senior guard Rebecca Grimes added 10 points to eclipse 1,000 career points for USMMA (6-17, 0-13 Landmark). Grimes has 1,008 career points. Catholic University is 16-8, 8-5.
C.W. Post 81, NYIT 73:Aaron Hall had 16 points and Billy Butler added 10 points and 11 assists for C.W. Post (17-7, 14-3 ECC). Daniel Berg's 24 points led NYIT (10-12, 8-9).
St. Joseph's 104, Mount St. Vincent 82:Junior Chris Jimenez scored his 1,000th career point with 8:24 left in the second half and has 1,002 points. He had 18 points and nine rebounds and Trey Black had 19 points, 11 assists, and nine rebounds for St. Joseph's (19-3, 15-2 Skyline). Mount St. Vincent is 15-9, 10-9.
SUNY-Purchase 92, SUNY-Old Westbury 89: Senior Lester Prosper had a career-high 39 points going 17 of 24 from the field and added 12 rebounds for SUNY-Old Westbury (9-13, 8-9 Skyline). Nassau CC wins championship.Nassau CC had five champions to capture the Middle Atlantic championship for its ninth consecutive title at Thaddeus Stephens College. Mike Graofalo (125 pounds), Kodie Silvestri (141), Jules Doliscar (174), Musa De'Resse (197), and Dave Agu (285) placed first for Nassau CC, which won with 129.5 points to beat out Middlesex with 74.
