Kevin Cernuto, Kieran McArdle score late in St. John's victory
Kevin Cernuto and Kieran McArdle each scored in the final 1:28 as St. John's held off Providence, 16-13, Saturday in a Big East men's lacrosse game.
St. John's improved to 8-3 and 3-3 in the conference, matching its highest overall win total since the program was reinstated in 2005.
Colin Keegan had six goals and an assist and McArdle finished with two goals and five assists.
Adelphi 11, Merrimack 10: Vinny Coiro (three goals) scored to give Adelphi an 11-9 lead with 3:50 remaining. Nick Watson added a goal and three assists for Adelphi (11-1, 9-1 Northeast-10).
WOMEN'S LACROSSESt. Joseph's 18, Mount St. Vincent 7: Heather Ferchland had four goals and an assist and Karalyn Tetelman three goals and an assist for St. Joseph's (11-5, 8-2 Skyline).
Adelphi 20, St. Michael's 1: Alexa Froccaro scored four goals and Danielle Jaycox and Rachel Aitkens each had three goals and an assist for Adelphi (13-1, 9-1 NE-10).
BASEBALLHofstra 4, Delaware 3: Joe Perez scored Robbie Cafiero laid down a suicide squeeze in the bottom of the 13th to win it for Hofstra (19-21, 7-10 Colonial Athletic Association).
St. John's 4, Louisville 3: Danny Bethea and Bret Dennis hit back-to-back homers in the fourth inning to give the Red Storm a 4-2 lead. Pat Talbut had two RBIs for St. John's (7-23, 6-8 Big East). Sean Hagan scattered 11 hits, allowed two runs and struck out two in six innings for the win.
Farmingdale sweeps Purchase. Eric Wiener had two RBIs as the Rams took the first game, 4-2. David Zilnicki scored three runs and Anthony Eilers struck out eight in a seven-inning complete game as the Rams (23-9, 15-1) took the second game, 4-0, and secured home field for the Skyline tournament.
SOFTBALL
Hofstra splits vs. Mason. Olivia Galati tossed a two-hitter with 10 strikeouts as visiting Hofstra (30-11, 11-2 CAA) took the first game of a doubleheader, 2-0. Galati threw a complete game with six strikeouts in the second contest, but George Mason's Brooke Blankenship hit a two-run homer as the Pride fell, 2-1.
